Aries

Greek
mythology

The myth of Aries (the Ram) originates from Greek mythology. At the center of this myth is a ‘golden-fleeced sheep’. This sheep was a special one entrusted to Hermes by the great god Zeus. Not only did it have golden fleece, but it could also speak human language and fly in the sky. In the myth, when Prince Phrixus and Princess Helle were about to be killed by their mother, Zeus sent this sheep to save them. The sheep flew through the sky with the two on its back, escaping to a distant place.

However, along the way, Princess Helle fell into the sea, and only Prince Phrixus was carried to the land of Colchis by the sheep. Prince Phrixus sacrificed the sheep to the gods and presented its golden fleece to the king of Colchis. This golden fleece becomes the objective of the later Greek mythological adventure of Jason and the Argonauts.
