Capricornus

Greek
mythology

The myth of Capricorn in Western astrology originates from Greek mythology. The symbol of Capricorn is the god Pan, who has the upper body of a goat and the lower body of a fish. Pan was attending a feast of Zeus when Typhon, a monstrous creature that even Zeus struggled with, burst into the banquet of the gods and started to rampage. The gods present, knowing the terror of Typhon, all transformed into animals and began to flee. Naturally, Pan also transformed into a fish and jumped into the river to escape.

However, Pan was so terrified that he panicked and only the lower half of his body that was submerged in water turned into a fish. Pan was so focused on escaping that he didn’t realize he had failed to transform. In this strange form, he desperately tried to swim away. At this strange sight, the gods present burst into laughter. Even Zeus, the great god, laughed heartily at the sight and commemorated it by making it a constellation.
