Sagittarius

Greek
mythology

There was a centaur named Chiron, the son of Cronus, who was the father of Zeus. Chiron was kind, had a strong sense of justice, and was skilled in music, medicine, horsemanship, prophecy, philosophy, hunting, and all other academic disciplines. He had the power of prophecy and hunting, and he taught these skills to many young heroes. Chiron not only taught skills but also fought on the battlefield himself. Once, he was teaching archery to Hercules at his request. However, during a dispute that Hercules had with the centaurs, a poisonous arrow from the Hydra that Hercules had shot accidentally stuck in Chiron’s knee.

Chiron, being the son of Cronus, the father of Zeus, was immortal. However, he could only continue to suffer pain and could not die. Later, unable to bear the pain, Chiron wished for death from Zeus, the king of the gods, and his wish was granted. Zeus, mourning his death, raised Chiron to the heavens and made him the constellation Sagittarius.
