Scorpius

Greek
mythology

There was a man named Orion, born to Poseidon, the god of the sea from the giant race, and Euryale, the daughter of King Minos. Orion had a gigantic physique and unparalleled beauty. Orion, getting carried away, boasted, “No creature, no matter how large or fast, can beat me. I will shoot down every beast.” Hera, the queen of the gods and wife of Zeus, was angered by Orion’s arrogance.

To punish Orion, she sent a large scorpion to him. The giant scorpion crept up to Orion’s feet and stung his heel with its venomous needle. Even the mighty Orion could not withstand the scorpion’s poison and died. From this achievement, the giant scorpion that killed Orion became a constellation, shining in the night sky.
